This 4 days safari will start and end in Kigali. The tour will take you to Nyungwe, a huge afro-montane forest for Chimpanzee Tracking. You will participate in other activities like canopy walk or waterfall hike. With over 10,000sq.km in size, Nyungwe is the undisputed giant in Central Africa. The natural forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. Over 300 bird species have been recorded.

You will also visit Volcanoes National Park in Northern Rwanda where about 300 mountain gorillas live to track Gorillas.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Transfer to Nyungwe National Park via Butare and visit the King’s palace, art gallery and national museum. You will have lunch at Ibis hotel in Butare before we proceed to Nyungwe forest. The drive will take 6 hours but it’s a great drive through the villages of Rwanda as you enjoy local lifestyles and an amazing landscape.

Accommodation: Nyungwe Top View Hotel.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walk or Waterfall Hike.

You will have an early breakfast at 4:30 a.m  and then drive to the edge of the forest where chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe starts. You will be back at the hotel to freshen up and have lunch. In the afternoon you will go for the canopy walk or do the waterfall hike.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park via Butare, Muhanga, Ngororero and then Volcanoes National Park. We will stop in Muhanga for lunch and refreshments. The drive will take more than 8 hours but it’s a great drive through the remotest villages of Rwanda as you enjoy local lifestyles along the Congo-Nile trail.

Accommodation: Bambou Lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking & Transfer to Kigali

Early in the morning you will do Gorilla Tracking and visit Buhanga Forest in the afternoon where all the Rwanda kings were initiated or Kinigi Cultural Village for traditional dances and music, bio-mimicry and traditional healing lessons.

 

Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching the gorillas. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!!! You get so close to these awesome giant primates.

Be back at the base in time for a late lunch! Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy. You will then be transferred to Kigali and dropped off at Kigali International Airport.
