Bird Watching experience in Uganda will take you to the best birding spots in the country. You will start with the famous Mabamba Swamp with very high chances of sighting the shoebill. We shall then proceed to Kibale National Park that protects a large block of rainforest with excellent birding opportunities and over 300 bird species including the sought after Green-breasted Pitta. Queen Elizabeth National Park with the highest number of birds at 600 species and end with the famous Bwindi Impenetrable National Park home to 23 of Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemics and excellent gorilla tracking experience.

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Hotel

You will arrive at Entebbe International Airport, located on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Victoria. You will be welcomed by a guide and then you will be transferred to the hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 2: Mabamba swamp

After an early breakfast, drive southwards to Mabamba Swamp Wetland located on the fringes of Lake Victoria. In Mabamba swamp, start the search for the incredible shoebill and other variety of water birds Flycatchers, herons, egrets, ducks, plovers, gulls etc.

Day 3:  Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Leave early for Kibale Forest National Park. Kibale Forest birds include Grey-winged Robin, Blue-shouldered Robin-Chat, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Black-billed Turaco, White-naped Pigeon, Green-breasted Pitta, Red-chested Flufftail, African Pitta, Joyful Greenbul, Cabanis Greenbul, Grey-throated Flycatcher, White-bellied, Crested Flycatcher, Masked Apalis, Nahan's Francolin, Tiny Sunbird, White-collared Olive-back and many more. This forest is also home to 13 primate species.

Day 4: Kibale Forest birding for Green-breasted Pitta & Chimp Tracking

Morning focus is to search for the Green-breasted Pitta and other chances to look out for are Western bronze-napped Pigeon, Yellow-throated Nicator, White-headed Wood-hoopoe, Red Headed malimbe, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Dusky-blue Flycatcher.

In the afternoon we track the chimpanzees in the tropical Kibale Forest. You will follow a trail that allows you to enjoy butterflies, lots of plants and other primates.

Day 5: Bigodi sanctuary swamp Walk and transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

Early in the morning, you will visit the Birding Bigodi sanctuary and then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Forest species to look for; White coloured Olive back, Yellow-billed Barbet, White-bellied crested flycatcher, Joyful GreenBul, Blue-shouldered robin chat, white spotted Flufftail.

Day 6: Birding Maramagambo Forest

We start early for a whole day birding in the park leading to Maramagambo Forest. Species at Maramagambo forest include the Yellow-bellied and Jameson's Wattle-eyes, Black Bee-eater, White-tailed and Red-tailed Ant-thrushes, Brown and Grey-chested Illadopsis, Shining-blue Kingfisher, Brown-eared Woodpeckers, Least Honeyguide, & Grey Greenbul

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, we shall take a boat trip on the Kazinga channel in search of some of the water birds.

In the afternoon, we transfer to Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest arriving that evening.

Day 8: In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Albertine Rift Endemics

We will take on the waterfall loop for such and more birds; Narrow-tailed Starling, Waller's Starling, Montane Oriole, African Golden Oriole, Strange Weaver, Brown-capped Weaver, Dusky Crimsonwing, Yellow-bellied Waxbill, Yellow-crowned Canary, Thick-billed Seedeater, Streaky Seedeater, African Green Broadbill, Oriole Finch, Mountain Buzzard, Ayre's Hawk Eagle, Handsome Francolin, Black-billed Turaco, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, African Wood Owl. More species, Bar-tailed Trogon, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, (Western) Bronze-naped Pigeon, Red-chested Owlet, Tullberg's Woodpecker, African Broadbill, Western Green Tinkerbird, African Green Broadbill, Legends Bush-Shrike, Grey Cuckoo-shrike, Toro Olive-Greenbul, White-bellied Robin-Chat, Olive Thrush, White-tailed Ant-Thrush, Grauer's Rush-warbler, Neumann's Warbler and Red-faced Woodland Warbler.

Day 9: Gorilla Tracking in Buhoma

Gorillas are amazing creatures, with so much energy yet gentle therefore commonly known as the gentle giants of Bwindi. You will be transferred to the briefing point by your driver guide before you can start the gorilla trek. The gorilla tracking can take anything from 1 hour to several hours depending on where they nested the previous night. Once you locate the gorillas with help of your guide and trackers, you are allowed to stay with them for only one hour.

Day 10: Transfer to Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via 'the Neck'

Early morning make your way towards Kitahurira, ‘the neck’ of the forest linking Buhoma to Ruhija. We look out for; Yellow-billed Waxbill, Black Saw-wing, Chubbs' Cisticola, Grey Apalis, Augur Buzzard, Petit's Cuckoo Shrike, Black, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eaters, Cuckoo Shrike, Mackinnon's Fiscal, Northern Puffbacks, Little Grey Greenbuls, Red-throated Martin, Yellow White-eye, Speckled-rumpedTinkerbirds. African Stonechat, Grey Cuckoo Shrike, Stripe-breasted Tit, Montane-masked Apalis, Red-faced Woodland, Montane Yellow Warbler, Regal Sunbird, Northern Double-collared Sunbird, Rwenzori Hill Babbler, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Crested Guinea Fowl, Lead-colored Flycatcher, Black-necked Weaver, Red-bellied Paradise Flycatcher, Yellow-spotted Barbet.

Day 11:  Mubwindi Swamp trail  

After breakfast with your picnic lunch take a trail to Mubwindi swamp that promises some of the most difficult of all rift endemics: the beautiful Regal Sunbird, Archer's Robin-Chat, Grauer’s Rush Warbler, African green broadbill & Caruther’s Cisticola, Handsome Francolin, African Hill Babbler, Banded Prinia, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Collared Apalis. The day will be spent exploring the highland forests of Ruhija some 2300M above sea level.

Day 12: Transfer to Kampala

Today morning, you start the journey to Entebbe for your outbound flight. You will have birding stopovers en route.

Transfer to the Airport and departure. If your flight is in the afternoon or evening, you will spend the day birding at botanical gardens.
