Queen Elizabeth National Park is described by many as the most popular park in Uganda. It lies in the west of the Great African rift valley and bordered by the Rwenzori Mountains (also known as Mountains of the Moon). There are over 95 mammals including 10 primate species (chimpanzees, velvet, blue, red-tailed, L’Hoest monkey, colobus, baboons), up to 20 predators (lion, leopard, spotted hyena, etc.), antelopes, buffaloes, hippos, elephants and over 600 bird species. However, this Park doesn’t contain any giraffes, impalas, zebra, or rhinos.

The Park incorporates dozens of crater-lakes, salty and freshwater lakes, views of Kazinga Channel and the endless Ishasha plains whose fig trees hide lions ready to hunt herds of Uganda Kobs.

The Ishasha area of the Park is home to very unique predators, the tree-climbing lions, whose males have black manes.

Kazinga Channel is home to the world’s largest concentration of hippos. Taking a relaxing boat ride on the Channel is a popular attraction and a great way to see the hippos! In addition, the sunset over the water is supposed to be spectacular.
